Surrounded by Assholes

That’s what it must feel like if you’re in the NFL these days.

OK, an organization as large as the NFL is bound to have some major f*ck-ups among their ranks. And that doesn’t even begin to touch the scale of the problems, I’m sure.

So far, we have what seems like half of the Bengals, Pacman Jones, and this whole Vick thing. Add Panthers RT Jeremy Bridges to the list. He waved a gun at a stripper after hours at a Charlotte club.

Say what you want about the occupation of taking off clothes for money (everybody’s got to work somewhere). Nobody deserves to be harassed like that.

Say what you want about the occupation of roughing up 250-pound linebackers for a living. You don’t pack heat on the field, you don’t need to off of it, either.

I would be surprised if Bridges doesn’t get suspended. He should.

His offense is not a huge East Coast dogfighting ring, but Bridges did screw up and should pay. Around Charlotte, after the early legacy that was established with the team’s ne’er do wells, we were having an upswing with a talented, decent group of athletes. They knew how to get away with stuff or were smart enough not to do it in the first place.

Bridges, keep yer guns at the range. Coach John Fox, suspend him for at least a game.

To amend what I said the other day about Vick, I hope he does get to play this season, especially if that indictment is true. Against a team of giant pit bulls.

 Vick updates here.

Hopefully soon we start watching football, not writing about it.
